The ultimate mindful apps to use in the office

Updated: Mar 8, 2020

Take a break

Relaxing in the workplace could seem contradictory. After all, you do not want to be found

chilling during your working hours. But, it could be reassuring to know that more and more

employers are paying attention to your mental health.

“I want my employees to pause when they need it,” said Monique Butler who has just

created her own business consultancy and brand design company. “Mental health comes

first in my office.”

And while you might argue young entrepreneurs are more far-sighted and empathetic,

mindfulness in the workplace is actually becoming a trend among the most senior

companies as well (read my feature in the first issue of Pause Magazine to find out more)

Mindfulness apps like Headspace and Calm have partnered up with offices to create an

accessible service for its workers to pause and relax during the day.

Calm, for example, has created a soundproof pod, in collaboration with ROOM, sustainably

made with 1,088 recycled plastic bottles to bring privacy and quietness to an open office

space.

The booth, which includes a soothing misty interior, allows their users to access Calm’s

ultimate mindfulness sessions designed for work as well as Nature Soundscapes to escape

urban noise.

“This phone booth means that I don’t have to beg for privacy anymore,”

said Maureen Heaney who works for CCA Global Partners in Manchester. “Once I had to go inside my car for private phone calls whereas now, I can have my space inside the office.”

Headspace, on the other hand, has recently come up with a whole app section called Work

& Productivity which includes meditation courses to find focus, boost productivity and

prioritise workload.

The app also features interviews with mindfulness experts in the form of podcasts to listen

to while commuting.
