London Marathon 2020: why you should attend this year

Updated: Mar 20, 2020

As a spectator, not a runner!

The London Marathon has been postponed to October 2020.

April 26 - save the date in your diary and do not go shopping in central London that day as,

chances are, you will not return with all your limbs!

The 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon celebrates its 40th anniversary this April and the

event organisers recently announced the theme to celebrate the occasion: a tribute to all

the past 39 marathons. Yes, we will see some crazy costumes again…

My inbox is already full of emails from charities advertising any sort of volunteering role –

including mopping the brows of the runners. And people are protesting about an

overcrowded city turning into an anthill.

But, despite this, one thing you cannot argue with: the marathon unites London for a day

while raising a bucket load of money for important causes.

Whether you are volunteering and have to cheer on some 40,000 people for up to 10 hours

or just laughing along at home in front of the TV at that guy dressed as a stormtrooper, the

London Marathon is able to bring tears (of joy and fatigue) every year.

Perhaps, more importantly, it leaves its attendants proud.
